RE-Regions: Socio-Ecology of Self-Sufficiency

2009 - 2013
With five building blocks managed by different project partners, the German EE-Regionen (RE-Regions) project explores regional self-sufficiency through renewable energy. Municipalities and regions have the capacity to create the basic conditions necessary for overcoming implementation barriers, motivate citizens and businesses, and, finally, stimulate participation and enhance value creation by decentralizing energy supply systems via regional and local self-governance processes. Essential to the project aim is the importance of site-specific possibilities of using biomass, solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal power, to evaluate the prospective use of energy efficiency and energy conservation, and to promote existing network structures and energy development potential.
